He started his karate training in 1979 from Sensei K.F Alfred who was the student of Sensei S.Premkumar, Srilanka. Later, from 1981 he practiced under Sensei S.Premkumar and Sensei K. Nakulanaathan from Srilanka. He got his blackbelt in 1984 and started to conduct karate classes since then.
Sensei Gopalakrishnan got training from lots of international masters and got BLACK BELT GO-DAN in 2000. Besides Shotokan Karate training he practiced SHITO-RYU as well under Sensei V. Sasidharan of Nagercoil, India since 1990 and got BLACKBELT GO-DAN in 2005. He practiced Kobudo and got blackbelt sho-dan from HANSHI Tetsuo Takamiyagi, Okinawa, Japan in 1996.
For the past 10 years Sensei Gopalakrishnan is engaged in creating a world record in performing Katas. Besides Shotokan Katas , he performs the Katas of other 3 recognized styles.(SHITO-RYU,GOJU-RYU, WADO-RYU) . He has won many awards and prizes for Kata in national championships and international championship such as IGKA KARATE WORLD CUP 2008 held in Chennai, India, directed by kyoshi Dennis May, 8th Dan of New Zealand. He got a ‘Life Achievement Award’ issued by GOSHIN KAI KARATE-DO ASSOCIATION for performing 101 Katas from 4 recognized styles in 3 hours during the Dr.Renshi.R.V.T Mani Memorial South India level karate tournament conducted at Metupalayam, India.

He got affiliation from Sensei Abe Keigo ,9th Dan, JSKA chief instructor,Tokyo, Japan.In 2010 .He conducted an Asian Open Karate Championship at Coimbatore, Tamilnadu, India under the esteemed presence of sensei Abe keigo, JSKA chief instructor,Tokyo, Japan.Besides Indian teams there was participants from , Nepal, Srilanka , Oman, &U.A.E .There was a 7 day's international seminar by Abe sensei..


He got blackbelt in Roku-Dan (6th Dan) 2010 from Sensei Abe Keigo ,9th Dan, JSKA chief instructor,Tokyo, Japan.He got the post of Chief instructor, Examiner,Judge of JSKA INDIA,
